Background/Rationale
New year, same disappointment. Ask almost any young person about the new year and they will most likely say “hopefully this year is gonna be better than last.” But why doesn’t the future for this world start looking optimistically about their future. We need to cancel pessimistic culture.
I also have a love for print and the craft of magazines. In my first year of University I went to a talk at the Italian embassy by Giorgio Camuffo. This changed me as a person and a creative. Seeing the magazines and designs he was making completely inspired me. When walking out I realized that making a magazine was what I want to do.
Challenge
The challenge is to create a platform featuring creative youth culture and how they look onwards to create a better future for the next generation.
problem
The world is being consumed by pessimistic views.
insight
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
idea
Spreading positivity through young artists by investigating and sharing how they use their art to spread optimism in this pessimistic world.
campaign idea
I wanted to create something that gives action to the viewer.
To create the posters for YNGSTR I started by creating 30 simple posters that showcase the three different artists in the first issue. The original plan would be to print out all of the posters, glue them on top of each other, rip them down, paint the copy over top, and finally take photos of the new and final outcome to be the real posters.
Sadly due to COVID-19 I wasn’t able to do this physically so I created it digitally.
I will be remaking the posters physically when I have the chance.
